Description
Coyaba, the Arawak native word for a place of ease and rest, a haven where time is passed feasting and dancing after a bountiful harvest or successful hunt. Let this villa be your reward, your haven. Sit in the shade of your poolside gazebo sipping a fine aged Cruzan Rum as you watch the fleet prepare for the weekend regatta through your spotting scope. At night turn your gaze skyward to count the constellations as a heaven of stars parade through the crystal clear Caribbean sky to the horizon.

Bright and open, only a wall of glass separates you from the panoramic view of Teague Bay, St. Croix Yacht Club and Buck Island beyond. Quiet and very private, yet only 15 minutes from the shopping and fine dining of the historic town of Christiansted.

Fully furnished with a large pool and air conditioned bedrooms, Villa Coyaba looks down on the crystal blue water of the Caribbean Sea. Two bedrooms are separated by the living area and afford privacy for couples or a family.

Teak french doors open to the pool and outdoor covered dining area with views to the British Virgin Islands. Through the intimate courtyard, fringed with tropical bougainvillea and hibiscus, a hint of breathtaking vista beckons...

Step through the doorway -- a wall of glass and teak frames a stunning panorama of turquoise sea and sky. Boats bob gently below in the sparkling waters of Teague Bay on their way to beautiful Buck Island, the only Underwater National Park in the U.S.

The Great Room features local island-style décor and gracious comfort. Tropical tradewinds provide cooling breezes. There is a fully appointed gourmet kitchen, dining room, and laundry. Amenities include a cable TV, VCR, and stereo/CD player.

Coyaba has two bedrooms, each with private bath, king-size beds (two twins can be converted to king), ceiling fans, and air-conditioning. All linens are provided.

Float in the crystal clear waters of your own private pool, overlooking the spectacular Caribbean below. Or escape the heat in the shade of the poolside gazebo. All this and more at Villa Coyaba...

Your vacation should be a special time of relaxation and tranquility, surrounded by beauty and pleasures that reward the soul. Villa Coyaba is set high on a hill overlooking the Caribbean -- a palette of intense blues which will take your breath away. Coyaba may mean "Paradise," but in this case it also means much more.

The calm azure waters of Teague Bay reflect the blush of the morning sunrise as you sit by the pool with a steaming cup of rich Caribbean coffee. Hummingbirds and banaquits -- known locally as "yellow birds" or "sugar birds" -- flit among the exotic blooms while you stretch out on a nearby lounge. As the day awakens, you watch the boats setting sail from the harbor below; trimarans in the distance are just arriving at Buck Island to moor for the day. Soon the warm rays of the tropical sun propel you into the crystal clear pool for a refreshing dip, and maybe even inspire you to swim a few laps. After lunch in the shade of the poolside gazebo, a nap in your air-conditioned bedroom leaves you rejuvenated for a pre-dinner round of golf or a quick game of tennis just down the hill, a short stroll away. As the setting sun casts a magical glow on the landscape below, you fire up the grill to cook the catch of the day, brought in by island fishermen that morning. You sit back, watching the stars come out in a sky unspoiled by city lights. The outline of a ship steaming along is barely visible on the horizon.

Who can resist the invitation of the clear, warm waters of the Caribbean? Sunny, year-round temperatures range in the 80s during the day, and 70s most nights. Tropical tradewinds keep you comfortable. You'll never have to fight with crowds on the numerous beaches that ring the island. Feeling lazy? Duggan's Beach, complete with soft, white sand and gentle waves, is mere moments away, at the bottom of the hill. With a locally renowned restaurant on site, there's no need to go any farther. A 9-hole golf course and tennis courts are just steps away. Are watersports more your idea of a good time? The waters around St. Croix boast excellent snorkeling and scuba diving. And there are plenty of dive facilities to meet your needs. Parasailing, windsurfing, kayaking, fishing, or excursions to Buck Island for a picnic-swim-hike and snorkel on the famous underwater trail, and much more, are yours for the choosing.

Just minutes away, around the bend on the south side of the island, casino adventure awaits you. The newly opened Divi Carina Bay Casino is St. Croix's first gaming establishment. Try your luck at the roulette wheel or drop a coin into a slot machine. Will Lady Luck smile on you? You can celebrate your winnings with dinner in the airconditioned glass-enclosed atrium of the Starlite Bar & Grill, perched at water's edge.

The setting is private, with a feel of being on top of the world. The king-size bed is luxurious. The bathtub spacious enough for two, with a view overlooking the Yacht Club. The rhythms of island steel drum music drifting from the stereo sets the tropical mood for a candlelight dinner for two. Do you really need that bathing suit for a moonlight dip in the pool?

Enjoy a taste of the tropics. Restaurants abound, offering a variety of styles, cuisines, and settings to please any taste and budget. No need to travel far, Coyaba is situated near two of the island's best dining spots. Nestled high in the hills above Coyaba is the award-winning Greathouse at Villa Madeleine. The ambience is island-elegant. (In fact, Villa Madeleine was featured on the Discovery Channel's "Great Chefs" TV show; the producer spent a month at Coyaba during production.) For something a bit more casual, Duggan's Reef awaits your pleasure on the beach at the base of the hill. A favorite dining spot of locals and visitors alike, it is owned and operated by a former Massachusetts resident. The decor boasts pennants from Baystate colleges and teams. Red Sox and Celtics fans, in particular, will feel at home. Don't forget horseback riding in the rainforest, nature hikes, and duty-free shopping in the charming and historic towns of Christiansted and Frederiksted. Visit St. Croix's rum factory, sugar mills, museums, forts, or botanical garden. Play tennis, or golf at the famous Robert Trent Jones-designed golf course in the rainforest at Carambola. Take a drive to Salt River, where Christopher Columbus dropped anchor in 1493. Drive just minutes down the road from Coyaba and view the St. Croix radio-telescope, part of the nationwide array (you can even call ahead to arrange a guided tour). A minute or two beyond and the road gently rises to a dramatic peak where you can plan to catch a breathtaking sunrise from Point Udall, the easternmost point of the U.S. Best of all, you can choose to do nothing at all.
