Description
The rugged volcanic island of Dominica, sitting in the midst of the thousand mile chain of Lesser Antilles, is covered by a diversity of natural environmetal features, unequalled in the region. Climate and time have worked here in combination with land forms to mould and develop a flora of coastal vegetation, dry evergreen forests, rain forests and mountain and elfin woodland.
To protect and perpepuate this natural beautiful resource, Dominica established the 18,500 acre Morne Trois Pitons National Park, now the only Heritage Site of its kind in the Caribbean, that takes in the major mountains, the world famous Boiling Lake, Boeri Lake , Fresh Water Lake and Middleham Falls.
At the base of the volcanic crater and 2,000 feet above sea level is the hamlet of Laudat, just 7.5km south-east from the capital Roseau. Here at the gateway of the National Park is Roxy's Mountain Lodge, an eleven-room homestead with self contained units designed for informal contact and togetherness.
Roxy's is a place where nature lovers or the adventurous will find themselves in the eco-tourist's utopia. They can enjoy the invigorating mountain air, and pure spring drinking water. Its location allows you, with skilled guides, to hike easily to the Valley of Desolation and the world's largest Boiling Lake, or climb the summit of Morne Macaque.
Starting from the Lodge, you can walk to the above interesting sites and end with a warm sulphur bath at the Ti-Tou Gorge, the outlet of the Fresh Water Lake, where a hot mineral spring converges with the bracing pure cold water of the gorge. Skilled swimmers venturing further up the gorge encounter sheer smooth sides covered by a rain forest canopy and are rewarded with the sight of a small waterfall plunging into the water. Nowhere in the Caribbean can nature lovers enjoy so many varied experiences in a single location.
Roxy's is renowned for its delicious and authentic creole cuisine using organically-grown local produce. Other amenities include a bar (with a wide selection of local and foreign music) and restaurant.
Roxy's can organize island tours and hikes and provide the ideal atmosphere at the end of a hard day's hiking - a massage by a qualified nurse.
