Description
The bungalow complex is located north of the Jan Thiel lagoon, less than 10 kms of the capital city of Willemstad. This lagoon is a natural habitat of a large colony of flamingo’s and once served as a salt exploitation plantation. De Plantage is within minutes from shops, restaurants, nightlife and beaches, but still secluded enough to give you the privacy and well-deserved rest you expect during your holiday. The bungalow park consists of 8 comfortable and stylishly decorated tropical bungalows. These units are all completely furnished with a complete kitchen, stove, fridge, airconditioned bedrooms and a cooling fan in the living room. There is a telephone in each bungalow, wireless internet connection, cable TV with most American stations as well as the Dutch station, BVN. In the peaceful bedrooms there are linens, lamps and a baby cod can be placed for a small fee. You can enjoy the sunrise or sunset on your private porch with either garden vista or a view of the Jan Thiel Lagoon. On the premises there is a swimming pool with beach chaises and to be used at your convenience. There is also a covered terrace where guests can read, relax and on planned Sundays there is a scrumptious barbeque accompanied by music. Should you need to do laundry, there is a laundry room present, but you can also leave your clothes behind for dry-cleaning service. The park has a parking lot for (rental) cars and each guest will receive a remote control key to open the gate after hours. During office hours you can always visit the Service Desk for questions, information and reservations to restaurants, attractions and clubs. There is also a shuttle-service which charges a small fee to bring your to beaches, the supermarket or downtown Willemstad. Guests of De Plantage have free entrance to the Jan Thiel Beach and Baya Beach Club.

Activities and Attractions

Curaçao offers a diverse array of options for the active guest.
Without doubt the most popular activity is renting a car and exploring the island at your own pace. Even though the island is small in size, there are many interesting sites to discover, visit and admire.
Naturally you can combine these visits with a dive in the crystal waters of one of over 30 beaches on the island and a scrumptious tropical lunch. For all information on car rental, sites and activities, please contact the service desk at De Plantage and we will be more than happy to provide you with all details, rates, tips and reservations.
Another possibility is to join our Off the Beaten Track island tour. It’s a great way to get to know Curaçao and visit some spots you might miss if you venture on your own.
The Caribbean Sea has much to offer especially if diving and snorkeling are your cup of tea. The nearby Jan Thiel diving schools can take you to breathtaking spots to explore the underwater beauty of Curaçao. These waters are teeming with underwater life: multicolored parrot fish, silvery barracuda, spotted French angelfish and colorful butterfly fish are just some of the varieties you’re apt to see. Colonies of coral and sea anemones inhabit the waters just off the shore.
But you can also choose to go windsurfing, kayaking or sailing. A day at the beach will have a whole new meaning!
The service desk at De Plantage will help you with all information, rates and reservations for any of these activities.

Hiking

Hiking is gaining popularity among the more active visitors, mainly on the western side of the island where the setting is rugged. Keep in mind that appropriate shoes are required and the early morning hours or late afternoons are recommended for this endeavor, as it can be very hot. Some great hiking locations are Port Marie, (marked trails available) the several boka’s on the Northern shore and the Chistoffelpark.

Mountainbiking

Mountainbiking is also becoming increasingly popular on Curaçao. The number of biking clubs and biking routes is growing and De Plantage will gladly provide you with information on how to join one of these rallies.

Horseback riding

There is a ranch across the road from De Plantage from where you can go Horseback riding with or without a guide. Take a romantic ride along the lagoon and watch the magnificent sunset!

Nightlife

One of the most popular pastimes on the island is FOOD. The Caribbean-creole cuisine is served with a smile, pretty to look at, but most importantly you will be blown away by the incredible taste of exotic ingredients, combined to make the most wonderful meals. You can visit small roadside “snèks” or a luxury restaurant. Have fun discovering your favorite dish or favorite spot. But by all means, do try local specialties as stobá (beef stew), fish and funchi (polenta), keshi yená (stuffed Gouda cheese).
Some recommendations in the direct vicinity of De Plantage: Brakkeput Mei Mei, Mambo Beach, Sarifundi’s and Mango’s.
There are numerous options for a night on the town. Maybe you just want to “chill” with a cocktail, a cold beer or a delicious barbeque or you want to dance the night away under the stars, you can do it all on Curaçao!
In order to become a pro at Salsa or Merengue, we refer you to one of our special packages. Yearly dozens of music festivals take place on Curaçao with international or local artists and it is great fun to dance outdoors or on the beach, watching and listening to great music. De Plantage will gladly give you tips and advice on all the current hot spots and planned festivals.
Typical Dutch night spots are De Tropen, Grand Café de Heeren, Mambo Beach, Tu Tu Tango etc. where you can get a taste of Holland, but in a tropical setting. These establishments are all within short distance from De Plantage.
Or you can try out your luck at one of the modern casinos situated in the larger hotels. The entrance is free and you are guaranteed to have an exciting evening!

Beaches

Curaçao has about 30 beaches and bays, all of them located at the serene southern seashore of the island. Visitors will be asked for a small entrance fee (per car or per person) at some of the beaches for maintenance of the environment. The water is clean and safe and for all beaches there is only one warning – the tropical sun! Do not stay in the sun for too long and always use sunscreen.
Some of the more popular beaches are:
