Activities and Attractions

Dinner is served by candlelight in the Tiamo lodge. White linen and polished silver, gentle breezes and fine wine—dining at Tiamo is the essence of "barefoot sophistication". Attire is casual—feel comfortable leaving the dinner jacket and pearls at home. Our guests often choose to sit together at one grand table to get to know one another better, and are often joined by hosts Mike and Petagay or members of the Tiamo staff. With guests hailing from throughout the world breaking good bread and swapping stories, these enlightened island dinner parties excite both the palate and the mind.

Diving: Dive into Andros Barrier Reef in the Bahamas. The third largest barrier reef in the world is an amazing example of one of the few remaining "stable" reefs on the Earth, and one of the least visited. It extends for over 100 miles no more than a half mile off the eastern shore of Andros presenting endless diving opportunities.

South Andros also plays host to the "Tongue of the Ocean", a deepwater trench, approximately 30 miles across and over 6000 feet deep. This spectacular underwater gorge is teeming with hundreds of species of colourful marine life, breath taking coral gardens, underwater caverns and some of the world's deepest blue holes. These extraordinarily deep inland sea pools are fed by the ocean via natural underground passages. Up to 200 feet across, these pools, caves, and tunnels offer endless discovery and challenge for even the most experienced diver.

Snorkeling: When you’re a guest at Tiamo Resorts on Andros Island Bahamas, snorkeling trips are as easy as walking out the front door of your private beachside bungalow. The crystal clear waters surrounding South Andros Island offer an unimpeded view of nature’s most beautiful scenery. Snorkeling is fun, easy and all the necessary gear is complementary at Tiamo Resorts.

Optional Activities: Shark Observation Dive $85.00, Custom-tailored Specialty Dives $125.00 (one diver with the dive master, for experienced divers only, computer diving, deep and cave diving, advanced booking recommended).

Fishing: Andros Island, with its hundreds of miles of inland flats, has long been recognized for its world-class bonefishing.

Bone Fishing Full-day rates for trips in and around the Bahamas’ Bight, which include the boat, guide services and a packed lunch on the water, are $350 per day for up to two people, regardless of who is fishing.

Full-day adventures to the seldom fished and totally uninhabited West Side of Andros Island, including boat, guide services and a packed lunch on the water, are $400 for up to two people, regardless of who is fishing.

Tiamo Resort, South Andros, BahamasKayak Tours:

Kayaks are available for guests at any time. A relaxing paddle on our "sit on top" kayaks in the near shore waters of the South Bight can be an exciting self-guided adventure. You don't have to go far to enjoy the peace of absolute silence with no interruptions other than the gentle sounds of nature. Take a picnic lunch out to a virgin beach for an afternoon of relaxation or experience a spectacular sunset afloat.

Guided kayak trips in the Caribbean can take you on a combination snorkel adventure to the "Crack." This unique fissure is part of a chain of inland and marine Blue Holes and harbours a myriad of fish and marine life. You'll learn about its formation while experiencing the thrill of peering over the edge into the abyss below. Other trips focus on the rich natural history of South Andros Island, in particular the unique ecosystems of the mangrove estuaries with the rich and complex bird and fish life they support. Full day trips to the remote West side of Andros are also available as a combination kayak adventure.

Sailing: The calm, protected waters of the South Bight and our extremely simple to use trim- ran sail boats offer even the most diligent of "land lubbers" the freedom of the "wind in your sails." With just a quick lesson from one of the Tiamo team, in a few short minutes you (singly or with a partner) will be plying the gin clear Caribbean waters of the South Bight.

Nature Tours: Deep in the bush see a side of The Bahamas that few tourists experience. Several nature trails right from Tiamo lead you through the diverse ecosystems found on the island. Marked plants and trail guides allow self exploration of some, guides will lead the way along others pointing out the species and their medicinal uses. You'll see colourful orchids, amazing bromeliads, giant cacti and termite mounds. Winding up at a tidal inland lake or amazing Blue Hole you'll gain a different appreciation for the real nature of South Andros Island.
