Man of War Cay - Abaco - Bahamas click here for Man of War Cay rental listings Man O' War Cay takes its name from a big, swift seabird, a
member of the frigate bird family. Barely a quarter mile wide and just over two
miles in length, this tiny island is dotted with lovely recreational villas that
overlook the sea. It is also home to the Albury clan, United Empire Loyalists
who settled here more than two centuries ago. Like New Plymouth and Hope Town, Man-O-War is a Loyalist village, with strong echoes of a traditional New England town. Pastel clapboard houses, built by ships' carpenters, are trimmed with gingerbread and set off by freshly painted white-picket fences intertwined with bougainvillea. The people who call this island home are deeply religious and conservative, and very proud of their heritage. Many are related to the "conchs" of Key West — like them, a tough, insular people who have exhibited a firm independence for many years.
